How should you read this calculator?
BMI: general reference based on body weight and height.
Estimated body fat: statistical estimate only, useful as a broad marker but not equivalent to a real measurement.
FFMI: relative lean mass indicator, especially interesting for sport / fitness profiles.
Why use an advanced BMI calculator?
The BMI remains a simple and useful large-scale reference, but it does not distinguish between fat mass and muscle mass. In athletic profiles, it can therefore be misleading when interpreted on its own.
By adding an estimated body fat value and an estimated FFMI, this calculator provides a more complete reading. It is still only an approximation, but in many cases it gives a more useful reference than BMI alone.
At EliteSport, we recommend treating these results as guidance indicators. They do not replace a medical assessment, an anthropometric evaluation or a more precise body composition measurement.

BMI Calculator: assess your body mass index

  • The BMI calculator (Body Mass Index) allows you to quickly assess your body composition based on your weight and height. This widely used indicator helps determine whether you are underweight, at a healthy weight, overweight, or obese.
  • BMI is a simple and accessible tool to get a first overview of your physical condition. It can help you set goals, monitor your progress, and better understand your current health status as part of a fitness or weight management plan.
  • With this calculator, you can instantly calculate your BMI and get a clear interpretation of your category. For a more complete analysis, it is recommended to combine BMI with other indicators such as body fat percentage, fitness level, or activity level.

How to calculate your BMI?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is calculated using a simple formula:

  • BMI = weight (kg) / height² (m)
  • For example, a person who is 1.75 m tall and weighs 70 kg has a BMI of 22.9. This calculation helps classify your body weight according to widely accepted health standards.

How to interpret your BMI?

Your BMI allows you to classify your body weight into different categories:

  • Below 18.5:  underweight
  • 18.5 – 24.9: normal weight
  • 25 – 29.9: overweight
  • 30 – 34.9: obesity (class I)
  • 35 and above: obesity (class II and III)

These values are general guidelines and should be interpreted with caution. BMI does not account for muscle mass, fat distribution, or individual differences.

What are the limitations of BMI?

  • BMI is a useful general indicator, but it has limitations. It does not distinguish between muscle mass and fat mass, which means it can be misleading for athletes or highly trained individuals.
  • It also does not take into account important factors such as age, gender, or fat distribution. For a more accurate assessment, it is recommended to combine BMI with other metrics such as body fat percentage, waist circumference, or overall fitness level.
